Nadine Faye James

This week, Laura Clayton has chosen the work of Nadine Faye James:

‘Nadine is an analogue heroine. She sits at an old school desk with an ancient typewriter and types portraits (with remarkable likeness) onto till roll. If that’s not cool enough, when I contacted her by email, Nadine sent me a hand-written response and a parcel of delights. I now have a book of ‘bearded types‘—portraits of swarthy men who’ve sat for her five minute typo-portraits, a hand-cut little illustrated book about scissor birds (a skillful bunch) and some charming owl bookplates. It’s enough to make me consider burning my Mac.’
