Just What I Never Wanted

Date
3 December 2009

The festive season is very much upon us, and the age-old question of what to get that special someone rears its head again. To give you some ideas of what not to get, KK Outlet are hosting a Christmas exhibition, Just What I Never Wanted in association with charity Shelter. Loads of great names have donated and signed gifts they would have rather not received, with all the lots being auctioned tonight at 8pm and the proceeds going to Shelter. We chatted to a few of them to see what you can get your hands on later this evening.

We asked a few of the contributors the following questions;
What have you donated to the show?
What are you hoping for this year?

Erik Kessels
— It’s a Sylvester Stallone ‘Rambo’ mirror that I was dying to get rid of. I got it from a ‘friend’ on my 22nd birthday.
— That the different cultures in Europe tolerate each other a little bit more.

Anthony Burrill
— A photograph of me aged around 6 dressed in a Red-Indian costume from Woolworths. I really wanted a Spaceman outift, so initially i remember being quite disappointed. However, I learned to love my Red-Indian outfit. I eventually got the Spaceman outfit, and it was brilliant!
— World peace, i don’t think i’ll get it.

Danny Sangra
— A rapping musical cookie jar that looks like a white middle class homeboy
— A time machine helmet

Sanderson Bob
— Peter Schmeichel mug
— More travels

Steph Walker
— I’ve donated a red sweater vest similar to one I received when I was around 10 years old.
— Honestly I’m hoping to settle in to New York and Brooklyn more. I’m still getting used to being on the east coast although it has been amazing so far. I’m also hoping to work on more projects that I enjoy, and not having to worry about money!

Damien Poulain
— I gave a tea pot that symbolises the end of an unfinished story.
— A bit more everything and less anything than last year.

Donna Wilson
— A crumbpet – a tacky plastic cat that sucks up crumbs from the table top.
— I’d like a real kitten (I know they are not for Christmas but I really really want a pet)(for life).

Eike König
— I donated a golden record i received for designing a bad sleeve and this record sold more than a million times. The client took over at some point and in the end it was one of the works you would love have not worked on. Receiving a golden record as a designer is not usual …even harder if it is for a design you really think it’s ugly. In a way the golden record looked the same way ugly. I’m happy to get rid of it now.
— Hoping to stay healthy, having and enjoying great moments with people I love, hoping to meet great people that’ll give me an insight of their lives, looking forward to travel Peru, Ecuador and Chile this spring.
