Richard Wilson’s 20:50 is possibly the first ever piece of contemporary art that registered with my childhood self. Dragged along to the old, old Saatchi gallery in St.John’s Wood by a mother looking to fill some time on the summer holidays, I naturally put up a fight. Then Richard Wilson came to the rescue, with his indescribable room of oil, literally full of oil. As exciting for an untrained child’s eye fifteen years ago as it was when I saw it had re-appeared at the new Saatchi on Kings Road. A truly contemporary masterpiece, and just in time for the school holidays…
