Jonathan Wateridge

I vaguely remember these doing the rounds a few months ago on many of the art and design blogs but for one reason or another I never looked into them. Created by London based artist Jonathan Wateridge, Another Place consists of a series of seven huge (3m x 4m) oil paintings depicting scenes from the production and narrative of a fictional American film that is centered on an unseen catastrophic event.

The production process of the paintings is in itself redolent of film-making. Prior to the first marks on canvas, scale model sets are built, props fabricated, costumes made and performers cast in each role. Having been championed in Saatchi’s “Newspeak: British Art Now”, Jonathan Wateridge’s work is well worth a look and if you, like me, missed it first time round check it out now.
