Anna Anthropy – Redder

Date
18 November 2010

There is a fair amount of debate as to whether or not video games constitute art. Most people are familiar with Spielberg’s quote that video games will become art when someone confesses to having cried at level 17. But whatever your opinion, the fact remains that an amazing amount of art and creativity can go into the making of a game. Such is the case with designer and game creator Anna Anthropy’s viral hit, Redder. Visually, the game is somehow both sparse and stunning. The score is equal parts ominous and ambient. Redder is essentially what Metroid would have been if it had been created by Stanley Kubrick. You might not cry, but Anthropy is just as capable of creating a mood as she is of coming up with clever jump puzzles.
