2010 Review: Roy Killen/Push

Date
22 December 2010

Roy sometimes scares us (in a sort of respect-inducing way) with specific knowledge of EVERYTHING to do with print. This is partly why we’ve trusted Push with the printing of all four It’s Nice That publications, but also because with them quality is second to none, and everyone over there is super nice.

Roy’s image of the year: “It isn’t all I do, but work, PUSH and what we do is important – thought about gathering up every single job we printed in 2010 and taking a picture, but felt that was a bit too indiscriminate, so have selected my favourite job each month – and with 8 days to go December is still open.”

Mark out of 10 for 2010?

Some 5s, some 8s, and even a few 9s  – for work, colleagues, inspiring, demanding, challenging people we work for, family, weekends, holidays, London, home, Crystal Palace FC – averaging at 7, and only 7 because there’s lots of room to make all that stuff even better.

What broke? How did you fix it?

My bike lights – I was seduced by those one-piece trendy ones that you can clip on and off, and after a week they either didn’t switch on, or if they did, didn’t switch off. For a while I took the batteries out to switch them off, then resorted to a set off ugly, but much more effective Cat Eyes.

What was the best thing you saw this year?

Fiona Banner’s Harrier jets at Tate Britain.

What was your favourite day of the year?

2nd April – Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday 2 Crystal Palace 2 – Crystal Palace stay in the Championship on goal difference, and I was there with my son, Conor – memorable.

Most dangerous/scariest moment?

Riding to work, head filled with everything but cycling and the road – straight through a red light causing a lot of swerving and swearing.

Best Google image search of 2010?

Pass.

Best man/woman of the year?

Rafael Nadal – best in the world at what he does, with no ego – how does he do that.

Your finest moment?

‘Finest’ is too grand for me – certainly enjoyed a couple of talks to 2nd and 3rd year Graphic Design courses, about what we do, and the passion we feel for print. Talking about how we communicate differently now to how we did last year, and how there will be new ways to communicate every month but there will still be beautiful print.

If you could only take one thing that you bought in 2010 into 2011, what would it be?

Those Cat Eye bike lights.

What would you like to say to 2010?

Gone, get that 2011 Diary, makes those lists, and off we go…..
