Alice Wang

We mentioned Alice last year and since then her work has gone from strength to strength. Her new project looks at the scale in the light of Isaac Asimov’s first rule of robotics – ‘A robot may not harm a human being’. Though scales aren’t currently doing much in the way of physical damage, Alice has focused on their psychological effects and created a range of subverted bathroom scales.

Pictured is ‘White Lies’, a scale that allows the user to lie to him/herself – standing further backwards displays a lighter weight, while stepping forward increases the accuracy.
