A family affair: Hill & Aubrey shoot the Skeltons for 1Granary
Yes, we’ve covered photography duo Tim Hill and James Aubrey’s on It’s Nice That more than once before, but this time Hill & Aubrey travelled north to shoot the Skeltons – a highly unique Yorkshire-based band of brothers – for 1Granary.
The student biannual is now on its fourth issue and looking stronger (and, at a hefty 600+ pages, thicker) than ever, with features on the industry’s established figures (like Nick Waplington) seated next to interviews with the most exciting creative talent from fashion schools around the globe including CSM, Parsons, Royal College of Art and Antwerp.
As for the Skeltons, there’s John, 26, a designer who makes thoughtful, sustainable clothes which are at once modern and nostalgic, and Ryan, who’s 21, a budding photographer and rising star on Instagram. Both brothers started at Central Saint Martins in 2014, with Ryan taking a BA in Fashion Communication and Promotion, and John an MA in fashion menswear. The last member of the trio is Danny. He might work rather incongruously at a high street bank, but his experience places him as the financial brains behind the family business: John Alexander Skelton.
Hill & Aubrey’s timeless story, in full exclusively for It’s Nice That below, sees the brothers, plus their mum, dad and grandma at home in Yorkshire, in a pastel-hued caravan, looking gloriously cult-like dressed in John’s oatmeal robes on what may or may not be the Yorkshire Moors (or probably just a big field).
