Graphic Design: gu&em studio produce some of Seoul's nicest artist books
Seoul-based graphic design studio gu&em is the commercial output of Zara Kim, a graphic designer specialising in printed publications. Zara works predominantly within the realms of art and culture, producing artists’ books, theoretical texts and works of critical thinking (and one offering advice on how to cook eggs), all designed with considered simplicity and an emphasis on typographical rigour. Though all of her work is approached with the same level of care, one title stood out particularly to us for its historical intrigue; a refreshing redesign of May Kellog Sullivan’s A Woman Who Went To Alaska, the autobiographical tale of one of the first female prospectors in gold rush-era America.
