Adam Tullie

Date
2 April 2012

The drawings of Adam Tullie are a beautifully irregular thing. On his pages we see a penchant for primitivism, rudimentary figuration and ceremonial African masks. It’s a traditional visual story told a different way – bits of collage here, a streak of red paint there, a touch of sexuality thrown in for good measure. Recent exhibitions have grouped Tullie under common themes of “psychonauts” (i.e. explorers of the unconscious) and “ritualistic iconigraphy” and that seems to sum him up well. His are the faces of a familiar dark dream, as intoxicating as they are unnerving.
