Andrés Magán’s illustrations mix a tender and lively narrative

Andrés Magán has many illustrative identities within his work. Broad but bold, his work crosses many boundaries but whatever the context, his drawings are executed with a lively zest.

After studying a fine art degree in Vigo, Spain, Andrés moved to London to complete a master’s degree in illustration. Since moving back to Spain, his work focuses largely on comics and painting, as well as illustrations for publications. He has contributed to Luzes Perdiz, Tentaciones, and provided artwork for bands such as Aries and Ratatat. Alongside these individual works, the illustrator has had several works published by kuš!, Fosfatina and Apa Apa Comics, which will publish Andrés’ first long form publication in March 2017. As if the illustrator wasn’t busy enough, he is also the co-founder of Noche Liquida, a small press publishing house.

Andrés’ prolific output on its own is admirable, but the quality of his work is where his charm truly lies. Within smaller pieces such as his narrative comics, texture through painted or digital brush marks is thoughtfully considered. Whether Andrés is drawing the dreams of his characters, idyllic landscapes or a roaring fire, each scene is tenderly depicted in his signature style.
