Antoine Marchalot's illustrations combine comedy and tragedy

Date
29 January 2016

Paris-based Antoine Marchalot studied illustration at École Émile Cohl and graduated in 2008. His work is humorous and unsettling, his portfolio contains a cast of brightly coloured but curiously contorted characters. He is a regular contributor to Arbitraire magazine who also published two books by the artist. In 2014 he released Une vie de famille agréable (now available in English) and followed up with the 32 page Un vrai guerrier ne meurt jamais même si ça signifie la mort early last year.

Antoine’s commercial work is slightly more restrained but retains a surreal, and sinister, edge. His illustrations have appeared in the New York Times and Focus Magazine.
