Marina Abramović and Willem Dafoe in Antony and the Johnson's gruesome new video

TYesterday saw the release of Cut the World, the latest single from Antony and the Johnsons, which is accompanied by an absorbing, thought-provoking video. Directed by NABIL, it features mesmerising music, sleek, claustrophobic office environments, shadowed spaces, and – seriously, take heed – a fairly gruesome scene.

Starring Willem Dafoe, Marina Abramović, and Game of Thrones’ Carice van Houten, the narrative’s mysterious conclusion is interesting – particularly when we take into account the fact that frontman Antony Hegarty, current director of this year’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre, has stated that we “need more oestregen-based thinking” and that “future feminism” will make the world a better place. The song, meanwhile, was originally written for an opera entitled The Life and Death of Marina Abramović , and the performance artist is a key participant in the festival’s events. Stirring stuff.
