Art: The mythical, beguiling rock collection of artist Georgia Kemball

Date
1 August 2013

If there’s anything we don’t need any more of, it’s rocks. They’re bloody everywhere. When they’re made as beautifully as these rocks by Georgia Kemball however, the more the merrier! I wasn’t even sure what was going on when I first saw this truly great project, doubting whether these were just glazed real rocks or just some stones from a distant planet.

It turns out Georgia’s actually made these little pieces of earth-fiction out of clay, and has lovingly moulded them to appear as if from the earth itself. Georgia states that her intention is to “draw you into her visual world, yet give you the space to form your own experience. Through the use of physical objects that feature in an implied narrative, she plays with making the imagined more real and explores a space somewhere between myth and truth.” Sold.
