Art: Gillian Wearing asks the public to submit the unique view from their window

I heard a rumour once that all Gillian Wearing has in her vast studio is a computer. Considering that all of her fascianting artwork is made up of volunteers’ contributions and crowd-sourced material, I guess that kind of makes sense. Seeing as Gillian is one of our favourite contemporary artists, we’ve been wondering what she’s been beavering away at since her sensational show at the Whitechapel Gallery last year and now we know.

In this truly exciting new project, Gillian is reaching out to everyone in the world who has a window and is asking them to film their view as they open the curtains, keeping their arms and hands safely out of shot. The result is a surprisingly emotional look at the outside world of other people, and a strange feeling of being trapped behind glass in a dark room. It’s just so eerie and beautiful. Got a window? Got a camera? No time to lose, send in your view now.
