Artek: White

Date
20 September 2011

It’s difficult to argue with any piece of design that has certified medical benefits but when they look as good as Artek’s latest collection White it’s even tougher. Designed by the Finnish company’s design director Ville Kokkonen the pieces on on show at Dover Street Market for the duration of London Design Festival.

The medical benefits mentioned are thanks to light therapy delivered via its 2500 lux (the unit of luminous power per area). Essentially, as well as being a good looking table lamp it can also help combat the signs of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), where a lack of sunlight during the gloomy winter months impacts on people’s mental health. It is designed with light at the top of the agenda – as Ville Kokkonen explains: “The biggest tribute for White would be that people remember its soft light but have no idea how the lamp itself looked.”

Cheer yourself up and head down to the Dover Street Market before 27 September.
