Into the wild – Ben Huff takes the journey on The Last Road North

Date
5 December 2012

Ben Huff’s photographic series documents what can only be described as an epic journey of discovery. He travelled the frontier of Alaska’s Dalton Highway known locally as “the haul road,” sleeping in his truck and taking comfort in “the silence, open spaces and the generosity of strangers”.

The road itself and the environments it cut through became an inspiration, endlessly promising a frontier just beyond the horizon which only acted to drive Ben further into a dangerous, harsh and complex wilderness: “The road served as a physical and psychological line between wilderness and progress; when I ran out of road west, I went north”.

The Last Road North marks Ben Huff out as a true adventurer; a photographer exploring the boundaries between the tamed and untamed.
