Benjamin Lowy: Perspectives

Date
7 November 2011

Perspective is not something that we can necessarily claim despite being inundated by imagery of conflict through the media. For photographer Benjamin Lowy, travelling with soldiers in an army Humvee was a necessity and it was this view he wished to present to the public. Through the bullet-proof window that frames images of Iraq both literally and metaphorically, he is a detached witness and has a lot of questions. “Do Iraqis see me through these windows? Do these soldiers see the Iraqis as they speed by?” He reminds us that these windows, much like our TV screens, “represent a barrier that impedes dialogue” – and the questions go unanswered.
