Boo Ritson: D is for Donut

Date
3 October 2011

Boo Ritson – one of our absolute favourite artists – has certainly been busy. With her D is for Donut exhibition opening in Southampton this week, a nice feature in Garage magazine and another show sure to take NYC by storm later in the month, you’d be forgiven for thinking the pressure might be piling up. But on the evidence of these gorgeous photographs, she is rising to the challenge and then some with intriguing landscapes alongside her trademark portrait work. Boo, as ever, we salute you!

Painting directly onto her subjects, she is redefining portraiture, but as ever she’s refreshingly unpretentious about her work. As she told the Garage journalist: “The important thing is that I have someone I’m comfortable with and who has an interesting face.”
