Braulio Amado updates format for issue four of Graphic Interviews for Graphic Artists

Distributed by Drawn Down Books, designer Braulio Amado has launched issue four of Graphic Interviews for Graphic Artists in which he asks a number of creatives to answer a set of questions with only visual responses. Now in its fourth iteration, Braulio was keen to update the format of the publication.

“The concept remains the same, but I decided to make it in a different size and with less people this time,” he says. “The drawings are bigger and the questions are a bit different — it was a nightmare to email 30 or more people for one publication. I wanted this project to be fun, and this issue was the most fun I had doing.”

The cover is a two-colour Risograph illustration Braulio created himself and the interior is a simple one-colour Risograph of bright magenta. Featured in this issue is: Abilio Compressão, Alis Atwell, Ana Benaroya, Ben Sanders, Gizem Vural, Josh Cochran, Nicole Ginelli and Rob Carmichael. Braulio’s selection process is ad hoc in that its people “whose work I follow and admire”. The drive for the designer is curiosity in wanting to see how people answer his prompts which range from “Draw where you sleep” and “Draw the place where you work” to more thought-provoking ones like “Drawing something you love”.

With the first three issues being filled with as many creative as possible, the new issue feels more refined and considered and a lot less stressful for Braulio to produce. “It would take me a year to finish one issue. I’m really happy with how they turned out, but I want this project to be something fun to do since I make almost zero money out of it,” explains Braulio. “So yeah, no more challenges, just an excuse to chat with talented people and create something with their work.”
