Cait Oppermann's photography highlights the magic in the mundane

There’s a trend that’s been brewing for the past year or two which is for photographers to take photos of rather mundane situations to highlight a certain beauty that resonates when the world is a teeny bit sleepy, and the strange scent of youth is floating around. I thought Cait Oppermann was perhaps one of the photographers who is partial to this, and she is, but she is so much more than that.

Her images, although often depicting friends doing the hilarious things that friends do, have a darkness to them that is simply not present in other people in her genre. That haunting image of the girl by the pool has been on my desktop for a few days, and I look at it now and again to remind myself that life isn’t boring at all. It’s weird, and it’s fantastic.
