I wasn’t allowed coffee as a kid. My mum said it was for grown-ups, and that the caffeine would send me “completely mental.” But times have changed, exemplified spectacularly by 15-year-old barista extra-ordinaire Callum Hale Thomson, who became interested in coffee after a trip to Italy and within no time at all had set up a cafe in Five Hundred Dollars, a gallery on Vyner Street. Callum is currently running a pop-up coffee shop at YCN (in part to mark their 10th anniversary). He’ll be serving Espressos, Cortados, Flat Whites and Cappuccinos until 22nd April – let’s go get wired.
