Event: Super-cool YRStore pop-up whets the appetite for the upcoming O2 Campus Party

Brace yourself London – it’s time to get techie. For the first time ever the O2 Campus Party heads to the capital next month for a whole week of talks, events and workshops based around the idea that “the internet is not a network of computers, it’s a network of people.”

Now in its 16th year celebrating the science, innovation, entertainment and creativity which underpin our digitally-defined world, the Campus Party aims to engage not only coders, hackers and the like but all those who have any interest in the technology with which they engage on a daily basis.

There’s been a lot of talk already about the fiendishly clever “coded graffiti” (see video below) which appeared on walls as part of the run-up to the event and last week It’s Nice That was invited to another terrific promotional event at YrStore in BOXPARK.

Using cutting-edge touch pod technology, visitors can design their own T-Shirts, selecting patterns, colours, text and other decorative elements before remixing the whole thing using a host of neat tools which dial up and dial down some of the visual elements. There’s also a print graffiti design wall in-store where you can knock up a design using a digital spray can (which is EXACTLY as much fun as it sounds). Within minutes you can have your design printed onto an American Apparel T_Shirt and have it in your hands (or even better on your torso).

It’s not only tremendous fun, it’s a thought-provoking way of exploring questions about the intersection of fashion and technology and the future role of open-source design tools in a commercial space increasingly dominated by customisation. It all bodes very well indeed for what is shaping up top be an excellent event.

The O2 Campus Party runs from September 2 to September 7 at the O2 Arena.
