Canary Wharf Screen: Suki Chan

Date
28 February 2012

The soporific effects of time-lapse photography are employed to their fullest extent in this excerpt from Suki Chan’s film Sleep Walk Sleep Talk. London slips by in indigo hues, light rushes past on the backs of trains and radiates from high-rise windows. Drawing upon the artist’s interest in urban spaces, the film interweaves static camera shots with personal portraits, “highlighting revealing responses to the mania of London life.” Like the scientist who finds beauty in the controlled chaos of an anthill, Chan’s film admires the symmetry of a city when viewed from afar. Hypnotic stuff.
