Cardboard Humans aim to "illustrate universal questions and feelings about love and loneliness"

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure; and the work of Tomás Pichardo Espaillat proves that once again, this amorphous “they” is right. Tomás is an animator and illustrator from the Dominican Republic with a rather impressive CV, having graduated from Parsons School of Design and holding the post of a research fellow at Fabrica. But when he’s not concerning himself with the bigger things in the graphic design world, he likes nothing more than making these sweet little people out of cardboard. Somehow, he manages to make their scrappy little forms into something emotive and poignant, whether in head shot-style portraits or a little vignette of what appears to be a post-coital cardboard couple. “The series takes its cues from a personal stance, yet each piece illustrates universal questions and feelings about love, loneliness, war, and many other aspects that makes us human,” says Tomás.
