Precise methods and imprecise narratives from artist Chyrum Lambert

Date
18 March 2015

Los Angeles-based artist Chyrum Lambert uses formal constraints like grid systems and scalpel blades to contain and compose his paintings made up of cut-and-paste figures, patterns and abstract narratives.

The grids he draws in are often broken and shifted, and with no formal training in art his treatment of materials ebbs and flows with his experiments. The textures and colour-ways are as key a draw to the work as the imagery, and the framing of his often abstract scenes infers tales of geological wonders, sunsets and faceless characters.
