French film collective CRCR remain frustratingly elusive. All we know is they’re based in Paris and study at Gobelins Ecole de L’Image. But if one of their most recent films Les Chiens Isolés (or Lonely Dogs) is anything to go by, we’ll be hearing more about them soon enough. In brief its story revolves around the friendship of two men working on an isolated oil rig – one finds he’s being trailed by a solitary animal whose inexplicable presence foreshadows, well, we don’t want to give it away. With evocative characterisation and an ominous soundtrack, it’s an absorbing six minutes of beautifully articulated suspense.
