It's furniture sure, but not as we know it – Critical Objects from HelloMe

Some may argue that furniture isn’t furniture without being 100 per cent functional. Well, that’s the rules yes, but designer Till Wiedeck of HelloMe doesn’t give two hoots about the rules, and has proved this by producing this intriguing set of structures.

Critical Objects is “a series of items that balance on the border between functional furniture and sculptural form without taking a definite position within either concept.” Wiedeck lures the viewer in by playfully tricking you into thinking you’re looking at colourful, contemporarily minimal furniture when actually a closer look reveals that it’s some very strange objects indeed. “You see something with four legs and a surface, your mind tells you it is a table, because you learned it is a table. Critical Objects challenges the perception of the initial disposition to the object by altering the context of the subject.”
