Energetic editorial illustrations by Damien Cuypers capture character and line with panache

French illustrator Damien Cuypers carved a niche for himself with colourful, energetic fashion illustrations. We featured his work on the site a few years back; and he’s still fluttering about at fashion weeks capturing the sartorially savvy with panache. Recently, though, he’s been working on more editorial work, creating a series of images for Norwegian magazine D2.

Created in crayon and commissioned by the mag’s art director Jørgen Brynhildsvoll, the series accompanies a story about “the mythic relationship authors have to hotels.” With a lovely mix of sensitively drawn architecture details and expressive character designs, we see the likes of Agatha Christie and Norwegian playwright Jon Fosse, brought to life with Damien’s vivid linework.
