David Clerihew's Americans take on new life during the US presidential race

We like to think that we bring you the most up-to-date and exciting creative content out there. That you’re always being shown the very latest work available. And about 90% of the time that’s probably true. But for now, let’s just enjoy some incredible work from two whole years ago (seems like a long time ago now right?) that has particular potency now in the midst of a US presidential race.

David Clerihew’s Americans is a series of portraits that catalogues the huge diversity of the American populace, from life-long law enforcers to first-generation migrants. It’s a subject we love to see addressed by a multitude of photographers – from August Sander’s 19th Century documentation of the German people there have been hundreds who have sought to render the faces of their nation in silver halides – but there’s few capable of such an impartial and beautiful portrayal as David Clerihew. Stunning stuff.
