Azuma Makoto's Distortion & Flowers is bloomin' brilliant

As someone who has grown up in a household that included a father drumming to Phil Collins and a contemporary florist for a mother, flowers and music have always been thrust into my eyes, ears and nose. And now the Floral artist Azuma Makoto has fused these seemingly independent sensory entities, creating a project that explores their relationship. After spending time thinking about Distortion & Flowers, the fusion doesn’t seem alien in any way.

Each floral arrangement is selected and shaped taking their inspiration from the individual effector and the sound it creates. The flowers are carefully strewn over and around the sound creators to performatively express the fleeting, ever evolving nature of music alongside the transient blossom of flowers. A viewer of this project cannot help being propelled into the performance; the now and the live nature of sensory experience.
