When you hear the phrases “Julius Caesar” and “opera” chances are that your first thought isn’t groundbreaking contemporary art, but the Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre are famed for their daring originality and you just have to glance at the beautiful costume designs for their upcoming English National Opera production to see why.

Clearly not wanting to stick with the tradition that most would almost automatically associate with the centuries-old story, internationally renowned costume designer Doey Luthi’s illustrative designs for the show are simply stunning.

With their creative abstraction and beautiful collaging they provide the perfect modern twist –from bare chested men delicately holding bells to masked women with distorted limbs and pretty impressive sets of wings – Doey’s illustrations are just fantastic.

Running for the next month, the show will be something very special if these designs are anything to go by.
