Beautiful new book documents Don Hudson's photographs of Detroit

Date
25 October 2012

Amateur photographer Don Hudson has been chronicling the day-to-day happenings of Michigan natives since the early 1970s, pointing and clicking at the gradual decline of a former automotive powerhouse. In the spirit of amateur photography, his vast archives of American Midwest photographs have remained unpublished and unedited for over 30 years.

Enter Editions FP&CF, a French independent press with a short history of publishing limited-edition books and zines for some of the best little-known artists and illustrators around. Together with Hudson they’ve extracted the finest of his images from over 15 years of careful documentation and compiled them into From The Archives, the first retrospective of Hudson’s work.

Taking in college football games, protest rallies, shops, bars and the city streets From The Archives offers a comprehensive exploration of a city that was once at the heart of America’s industrial economy, from the perspective of man who knows it intimately, having walked its streets his whole life.
