Doug Aitken: SONG 1

Date
14 March 2012

We experienced one of Doug Aitken’s vitally new cinematic installations last year in the Black Mirror exhibition and now his compelling use of sound and environment and the potential of projection will be ambitiously realised once again by encompassing the circular facade of the Hirshhorn building. SONG 1 will see images recede to the edges of our sightline so that there is no one fixed perspective of the complete film. Structured editing of the visuals – at times “cubist” at others an open panorama – is reflected in the sound (provided by the likes of Beck and James Murphy) transforming specifically the environment and perceptual architecture of the building.

SONG 1 will come to life nightly till midnight from March 22 to May 13.
