Dudi Hasson's personable photography of thoughtful amusement

Stumbling across the work of self-taught Tel Aviv photographer Dudi Hasson was one of those oh, my, god, moments. His ability to combine playful, natural shots with commercial value is a rare and exciting talent. With Dudi’s high flash photographs each shot instantaneously catches your eye and once it focuses, you can’t help but smirk or gawp.

One project in particular that fully represents these exuberant characteristics of the photographer is Jacki, a series of nude photographs of the landlord of a shooting location where Dudi photographs Mara Hoffman’s look books. The project showcases Jacki in her house, but in a fresh alternative way to regular ‘at home with’ shoots. Each photograph contains attention to detail, velour materials and naked flesh reflecting the flash, but the humour embedded allows the series to appear wholesome. One particular photograph of Jacki laughing with her dog, almost gives you an understanding of Dudi’s personality, the event just feels like a whole lot of fun.

Where Dudi’s work is able to translate commercially is his work for designer Mara Hoffman. The photographers placement of body parts and surrounding locations lifts each item of clothing on the model, completing a fine job of promoting the clothes design.

His photographic eye is additionally able to capture lengthy image stories as he does in Red Heads a series shot in Israeli Kibbutz, a community based around agriculture. The series displays a true fly on the wall documentation, it doesn’t intrude on the community or make the subjects look or feel uncomfortable in any way.

All of these attributes have created a very personable, thoughtful photographer who we just want to see more of.
