Photography: Emily Maye shoots her first Tour De France with typical flair

Date
31 July 2013

It doesn’t take a keen eye to know that Emily Maye is seriously adept at capturing the pure thrill of cycling with her meticulous photographs, nor is it hard to believe that she keeps on improving with each new series she produces; whether it’s road racing or cyclocross Emily documents the atmosphere of the event majestically. What is hard to believe is that she’s only just shot her very first Tour De France – though it was the centenary of the event, so that’s a pretty special honour in itself.

For the 2013 edition, Emily accompanied Team Radioshack Leopard Trek (mouthful) out to France as their official team photographer, documenting the trials and tribulations of their day-to-day on the Tour; the throbbing veins, exhaustive hill climbs, moments of pure camaraderie and competitive triumph. Alongside images of the team themselves are snippets of surrounding countryside, the enraptured faces of spectators and even what appears to be a yellow-jerseyed Chris Froome enjoying a morning paper with enough mineral water to fill a swimming pool. Ah the Tour, the glorious Tour!
