Eyeball the butts of Florence with Erik Benjamins' new book

Date
13 February 2015

Erik Benjamins’ Butts of Florence is a collection of writing about finding yourself, restaurants and butts, all over Florence. Erik travelled to Florence from the US for six weeks of “teaching, walking, watching, thinking, eating and learning.” It sounds very idyllic – and somewhat like a trailer for a top Hollywood coming of age/finding yourself/mid-life crisis movie.

The butts punctuate Erik’s writing, which takes the form of a sort of a diary with letters, travel tips, restaurant reviews and the odd bit of poetry adding flourishes to some black and white stone cheeks. It’s a great use of a trip, a fine example of cultural appropriation and just generally a very good excuse for hanging out at the rear ends of international cast courts. Smooth move.
