Esther Tielemans

Date
29 March 2012

It’s not easy to build something out of big, colourful shapes without it looking like a playground – but it’s exactly this kind of cheerful maturity that sets the work of Esther Tielemans apart from the rest. The Dutch artist’s early large-scale landscapes were often displayed as freestanding objects in galleries before she began to create more abstracted “object paintings” that drew inspiration from the open plane of vast natural environments. Her work now encompasses painterly, reflective flats and geometric structures – all the while retaining an effortlessness that’s a testament to her skill.
