Graphic Design: Super work from new studio formed by three Leeds graduates

Date
2 October 2013

It wasn’t like this in my day, when Graduates would spend the first few months of post-study freedom “finding themselves” in India or trying to write their epoch-defining first novel. Now when they leave art school, young creatives are often ready, willing hand able to plunge straight into the professional world. Leeds College of Art graduates Luke O’Brien, Max Gregory and Joe Warburton did just that, founding Formula studio based on a business model developed for a module on their course.

Such get-up-and-go is all well and good but without the skills to pay their bills (ahem) it could be a futile effort. Luckily Formula have no such concerns in this area, with a mighty impressive portfolio already boasting some stand-out projects. Their typefaces created in conjunction with Yafet Bisrat are really good, but their holistic aesthetic abilities really hit home in their branding for fashion design graduate Rebekah Hill. The classy, refined identity built around a tilted “K” section wouldn’t look out of place on a much more established studio’s site and proves these three guys are well worth keeping an eye on.
