London studio GBH smash new Doctor Who stamp series out of the park

Like drum n bass or onsies, Doctor Who is a cultural phenomenon whose significance I accept without really getting it. As a youngster I got my fantasy fix from Narnia and so never really had any need for the dalek-baiting, Tardis-driving timelord, and this ambivalence continued even when the show relaunched in its contemporary incarnation. But I do realise that many people LOVE it, and schedule their Saturday nights around his adventures, so it came as no great surprise that The Royal Mail commissioned a special set of stamps to mark the show’s 50th anniversary. And it’s no surprise either that the fine folk at GBH have done such a grand job in producing them, with each stamp reflecting the whole aesthetic of the version of the show in which that particular actor starred. In that way the set manages to “communicate the constant visual evolution” of Doctor Who, as GBH director Jason Gregory puts it and they do an excellent job of documenting this major slice of British televisual history.
