George Heaven's gross illustration is gloriously hellish

He’s called George Heaven, but his illustrations look like hell – in a rather wonderful way. Tackling the body in ways that are grotesque, twisted and undeniably imaginative, George’s portrayals aren’t for the faint-of-heart. Detailing an illustration made for Beach London and Camden Town Brewery’s Beer at Beach exhibition, George explains: “The image is meant to illustrate the ‘milling’ process of making beer but I ended up drawing a fat cycloptic woman with a crude digestive system devouring human flesh.” Which sums it up rather accurately.

It’s little surprise that his work caught the eye of Vice, which commissioned him to illustrate a feature on swinging, which he did in a way that joyfully stripped away any eroticism and turned the practice into a peculiar mass of mono-coloured limbs and erogenous zones.

When he’s not working on editorial commissions, George has also created animation projects, such as the Football Babes short created in collaboration with animator Jonah Ainslie for the start of the 2014 world cup, which unites his apparent fascination with a curvy female form with the bounces of the beautiful game.
