Graphic Design: Sonya Dyakova designs a beautiful new book about artist Ron Mueck

Date
6 August 2013

Well now isn’t this a book you’d love to unwrap and pore over? Not only is this beautiful, soft tome designed by none other than Sonya Dyakova of frieze art direction fame, but inside is the visual story of one of the world’s most mysterious artists, Ron Mueck. Ron shot to fame back in Saatchi’s Sensation show and has since been creating some of the most intriguing and evocative hyperreal sculptures anyone has ever seen.

Sonya’s clever design of this book lets us explore Mueck’s sketches and process, pulling in exquisite close-up shots of his work and sources of influence. The cover of the book is made of a paper that feels like skin; almost wrinkled and pored, and the design is rigid and meticulously laid out so as to reflect Ron’s practice. The publication also features essays from art critics Robert Storr and Justin Paton for you to read when you’ve finished ogling both the beautifully designed book and the artwork that adorns it’s pages.
