Art: Summery landscapes and tropical colours! Here's painter Guy Yanai

Date
7 January 2014

Guy Yanai is a young Israeli artist doing super interesting things with oil on canvas. There’s a strong dash of Hockney in his work, which reconfigures poolsides and tropical landscapes with abstract forms in vibrant, summery strokes, and frankly in the deep dingy grey of January we don’t have a bad word to utter against them.

Guy is super-disciplined in his technique of composing images, using thick horizontal stripes, and his artwork isn’t limited to the confines of canvas, either; last summer his paintings were used as part of design brand Band of Outsiders’ Resort 2014 collection, giving his tropically coloured images a whole new life on silk shirts and bandage skirts. Paintings so nice you can wear them!
