Abstract and intense graphic design by Hagihara Takuya

Date
15 August 2016

Hagihara Takuya is a Tokyo-based artist and graphic designer. His abstract work packs a visual punch without providing any sense of narrative or communicating anything familiar. The patterns he creates, typified by a glitchy and erratic aesthetic that hints at a disruptive creative process, could at once be a failure of a computer programme or an interpretation of animal markings. Hagihara says he finds “inspiration everywhere” and graduated from the Institute of Faculty of Technology Electronics in 2002 before gaining experience in design agencies in Tokyo. Since 2009 he has been working freelance. His work is currently on show at the Field Contemporary gallery in Vancouver, Canada, as part of the group show An Honest Mimic.
