Henning M Lederer animates vintage book covers and the result is hypnotic

There are few of us who can resist a vintage book cover, unless you’re a weird, die-hard Kindle fan. But for anyone wishing a book cover gave you more than a static interpretation of what lies within its off-white pages, Henning M Lederer’s animations are just for you. Taking 55 vintage covers, Henning has subtly brought each one to life to make them more intriguing than ever in this mesmerising video.

Published in the 50s, 60 and 70s the covers reflect times when minimalist, geometric and coolly-coloured graphic design was all the rage. The animations add an irresistible dynamism, allowing circles and spirals to rotate hypnotically and arrows and lines to warp in all directions. German animator Henning refreshes the covers in a way that simply enhances the original designs and imagines what they could’ve been like had graphic designers back then been able to set their creations in motion.
