Illustration: Big, bold colourful prints on easels? Yes please, Antti Kalevi

Date
8 August 2013

How come every illustrator from Helsinki draws such happy, colourful pictures? Is it something they put in the water in those spas they go to? That’s my guess. Alternatively they could just be really happy and good at drawing, which is exactly what Finnish design student Antti Kalevi seems to be. His neon prints of animals, smiles and shy little mushrooms are a comfortable distance from twee, and cosily close to fun. As well as how well-made his images are, what were were drawn to was how nicely these were photographed. Doing something a tiny bit different to everyone else certainly pays off.
