Illustration: Marta Orzel’s stunning mountain ranges seem to belong to another world entirely

You know what they say about the tip of the iceberg? Well, these whimsical drawings by Polish artist Marta Orzel give a whole new meaning to the concept of what lies beneath. Her alien landscapes, which contain just a dash of Björk and a splash of Matisse’s cut-outs, are magnificent and look like they’ve just fallen out of a dream.

Oozing with fantastical creatures whose bodies are made of nebulas, her mountainous illustrations seem part of another realm entirely. They are so otherworldly that it’s hard to believe that they’ve been pasted together through a combination of painting, drawing and collage. The spellbinding effect is perhaps achieved through Marta’s contrast of the organic and the geometric: straight angular lines and shapes are juxtaposed beautifully against sparkling textures and natural silhouettes. So have a look at what lies beneath the tip of Marta’s imagination, and plunge into the magical world below.
