Time to meet our latest shiny new intern – it's only Holly Wilkins!

Date

Our brand new intern bowled up at It’s Nice That HQ this morning, ready, willing and able to write the heck out of some top art and design over the next ten weeks. So we are delighted introduce Holly Wilkins – everyone this is Holly, Holly meet everyone. Read on to find out about what she learned about living in Los Angeles, what really goes well with peanut butter and which Power Ranger she most wanted to be…

How do you explain what you do to your parents?

I tell them that I write about art. I’ve tried in the past to have an intellectual conversation with my parents about the content, but the sheer look of confusion was an indicator to keep it pretty general.

Who do you look like?

One friend told me I looked like Garth from Wayne’s World. Party on!

Did your education count?

I’d like to think so. I have been told in the past that an arts degree is useless, and honestly, I did believe that for a while. I read cultural studies at the University of Leeds and loved it. I may know too much about the Soviet film industry, or that Freud’s craziness makes sense to me, but at the end of it all I learnt that if you pursue your interests, your zeal will get you there.

What’s the best mistake you have ever made?

This is a difficult one. It would have to be living in LA for three months. The mistake was spending all my savings and working in an industry I was pretty sure wasn’t for me. The best part about that mistake was the sun, and confirming that the Hollywood industry is ridiculously superficial.

When did you realise that this is what you were good at?

Not until quite recently to be honest. Tedious essay writing where I would be hung, drawn and quartered if not referenced properly was not the best platform to get started. However after starting this blogging business (late on the bandwagon I know), I realised that you can get enjoyment from writing.

What rules do you live by?

Nothing concrete, I take each day as it comes but I do believe that having manners is very important.

What makes your day?

A cuppa.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I wanted to be a vet, but really, really deep down I wanted to be the pink Power Ranger.

What one thing would you like to be remembered by/for?

By the time I am dead, I’d like to think that reincarnation would be an option. Failing that, I would like to be remembered by friends and family with laughter and smiles.

What’s your favourite combination?

When I was younger it was Oreos and peanut butter, but now it has to be apple and peanut butter. So. Good.

What’s the funniest thing you have EVER seen?

A compilation of wake up pranks. Harsh, but we all love to laugh at other people’s misfortunes.
