Illustration: Presenting the surreal world of Jamian Juliano-Villani
Tuesdays can be hard. We know. You can no longer pin all your misery on the fact that it’s Monday, you can’t blame your complete inactivity on a midweek slump, and it’s definitely too early to start counting down to the weekend. Just in case you were starting to nod off, though, we’ve got Jamian Juliano-Villani and she’s about to blow your mind into next week.
The magnificently named illustrator (that’s a full 10 syllables right there) makes artwork which is basically the visual equivalent of falling into a 1980s time warp and emerging into a comic book universe on the other side. Her surreal illustrations combine more styles than we can count with a nonchalant whirlwind of colours to create the ultimate medley, like a trippy, grown-up take on your favourite children’s TV programmes. This is a heady mix of Animaniacs, willow pattern plates and The Sims 2. In other words, perfect.
