Illustration: Janusz Stanny's illustration looks as brilliant as ever

Date

Is it possible to call Janusz Stanny the grandfather of children’s book illustration without sounding like I’m churning out everything that was ever written about him? Because it’s hard to find another way to describe all that he’s done with falling upon a big old cliché and clutching at it with both hands. The Polish graphic designer, poster artist and teacher has illustrated over 200 hundred books in his lifetime, and taught innumerable people at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, all the while creating an unbelievable oeuvre of work which has proved its own timelessness and charm purely through the fact that it still circulates today. And it still looks bloody lovely.
